PREP BLOG: Eckman’s feat is strictly for kicks
There were a lot of good things for Mt. Carmel High football coach John Anderson to contemplate after the Sundevils season-opening game victory over La Jolla.
But the one thing that really gave Anderson a little extra kick about the game was the 49-yard field goal that junior place-kicker Chase Eckman nailed as time expired before halftime.
“It would have been good from 55 or 60,” Anderson said.
Anderson said that it not only gave the team a 17-0 lead, but sent it into the locker room with an extra bounce in their step.
Eckman came up to the varsity late last season after Nick Vasko, the place-kicker and quarterback, was injured. He played a little fullback but this year has been asked to focus on his duties as the teams place-kicker and punter.
