Former NFL All-Pro Chad Johnson, from the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots, from 2001-2011, is getting a shot to play in the XFL.
As a kicker!
Johnson mentioned on social media the other day he seems “excited as hell.” He is not new to the kicking game as he has hit a few extra points in emergency situations during his career.
The interesting part is that soccer is Johnson’s first sport and played semi-professional soccer, joining Boca Raton FC just last year.
If you are asking our opinion if this is possible? Yes, or course.
I also grew up playing soccer, but field goal kicking is different, its a different swing. Special Teams coaches will look to see how straight the ball is traveling. Often times, soccer players can kick and kick really far, but cant be consistent. By taking time (sometimes years) to develop the right swing will be Johnson’s goal by the time he arrives in Houston for his tryout. We hope he makes it!
