It’s fantastic to see Ron Hamamoto recognized as the Union-Tribune’s Boys Coach of the Year for 2024-25. This honor is incredibly well-deserved, marking a truly remarkable end to his coaching career at Monte Vista High School. Leading a team from a 4-5 start to a CIF San Diego Section Championship and a State Championship game appearance in his final season speaks volumes about his unparalleled ability to inspire and elevate performance. His career record of 246 wins, placing him among San Diego’s top three coaches, is a testament to his consistent excellence and dedication over 33 seasons.

Article: Coach of the Year: A Tribute to Ron Hamamoto

I had the privilege of working alongside Coach Hamamoto at both Cathedral High School and Rancho Bernardo High School, and his impact on young athletes and coaching staff alike was always profound. Beyond the impressive win-loss record, what truly defines Coach Hamamoto’s legacy is his genuine commitment to player development and his exceptional mentoring abilities. He didn’t just teach football; he shaped character, instilling discipline, resilience, and a deep understanding of the game. He had a unique way of connecting with players, helping them to unlock their potential, much like the philosophy we champion at The Kicking System. His influence is evident in the numerous former players he’s mentored who have gone on to become successful head coaches themselves.

Coach Hamamoto’s retirement from coaching marks the end of an era, but his lasting impact on San Diego football will undoubtedly continue through the generations of players and coaches he’s inspired. He is, without a doubt, a true Coach of the Year.
