The benchmark for what is considered a “long” or challenging kick has effectively shifted from 40 yards to 50 yards.

In 2014, it was rare for a kicker to have multiple 50-yard field goals in a season. In 2024, it was common to see dozens of kickers with several 50+ yard makes on their resumes.

In 2014, the winner made 94.7% of his field goals.
In 2023, the winner, Graham Nicholson, converted an incredible 96.4% of his kicks and was perfect from inside 50 yards.
